Say goodbye to Hollywood
It turns out the man was a broke junkie. Gee, you think there would have been some warning signs along the way

Tony and I
The kids read my blog, my mother reads my blog, well gang, this man is why I blog. He gave me my first comment. Tony Pierce and I hooked up while I was in L.A. and he bought me dinner for my birthday. Thai food. Delicious.
Thanks again Tony.

Today was my birthday. It started in Vegas....
....and ended in Venice, CA.
I think she digs me
L.A. is EASY!!
So I drive in from Vegas thru Pasadena and make it over to the 101 northbound pretty easy. Then for SOME reason I think I'm NORTH of Hollywood and I get off at Alvarado and head back south. I hear you Angelinos screaming. 101 south to 5 south to 710 south.
So now you know that I'm not real familiar with L.A. but you KNOW I can't exit on the way to Long Beach because the freeway signs are COVERED in graffiti.
So I'm looking for ANY westbound freeway and find one to El Segundo one exit short of Compton. Westbound, northbound and back onto the 101 and into Hollywood. I pull up to my hotel and the eyes of parking attendant say it all. The right side of my car is covered with graffiti, there are two bullet holes in the front window, and THEN I get out and tell the guy, "watch THIS". I open the trunk, and three illegal aliens get out.
Keep in mind that after fueling up in Pasadena and getting back on the freeway, I never went slower than 65mph.
I love L.A.
da da da da da da da da da da
I love L.A.

I have never seen so many kids here!
I volunteered my services as a photog a couple of times so EVERYBODY would be in the shot.
Remember those high heeled sandles from the 70's? It's the 70's here!
This place is as entertaining as it's always been. I swear space aliens come here just to laugh at us.
Oh and kids, if you EVER see me pulling a suitcase down the strip in Vegas, shoot me.

Out in the garden
Driving down the road forever
Telephone lines buzzing
Prayers of the wicked
Chasing the fleeing sunlight
Worrying about the clouds
Does my faith push the gas?
Are those your cries I hear?
Through my open window
Is that your pain I feel?
Through my open window
Or is it mine?
Or is it mine?
Racing down the road forever
Where's the traffic?
Am I the only one who got it right?
Am I the only one who's terribly wrong?
Am I speeding,
Or just always in my hurry?
Am I impatient,
Or just anxious to see,
How it all comes out?
If there's an ending to it at all.

Color
Black is the presence of all colors. White is the absence of all colors. There are 256 gray tones between black and white. This photo is loaded with color.
If you want a headache we can talk about the concept that things are not colored at all but merely reflect color.
That's my soul up there

Friday Fragments
First, from last weeks trip home.
The reality of Tucson in July? I get into my car and it's HOT, I put on the sunglasses that were in a shady spot in the car and THEY'RE HOT. I start the car and grab the steering wheel and......YES
HOT!
The Mexican food I had from two usually solid sources, wasn't as good as it should have been.
KLPX plays the same songs all the time so it's like I never left. TIME WARP!
I can't remember last time I was in a pool.
Driving home through Phoenix I spot a dude driving a two seater BMW. WITH THE TOP DOWN!!
Dude, 99% of the people seeing you think.....wait....KNOW you're an idiot for creating a 70 MPH, 100 degree wind in your hair. The 1% who like it consists of one 55 year-old woman driving a '72 Maverick.
There is no second
Lucky Wishbone
I have been eating food from this place since I was in grade school. Gimme a "Pop Shrimp" and I'm a happy man. That's 11 butterflied and breaded shrimp, fries, and garlic toast. Great spicy sauce too. Lucky Wishbone has been operating in Tucson since 1955. This location is less than a mile from the house.
Barber Shop
I've been getting my hair cut here since I was 6 years old. Back then it was called the 11 Chair Barber Shop. Now it's called Bhudda's. The decor and staff have changed a bit but it's basically the same shop. I let my hair go just a bit long when I'm going home so I can get it cut here.

A calm stillness and a feeling of great loss.

Randolph Golf Course
I learned the game of golf on this course. My father and I liked to hit as soon as we could see down the fairway. We stopped playing the course because the staff were such jerks. Then a while ago I read an article in Golf Magazine about the 5 courses "you have to play before you die". The first four were world class courses and the fifth was "the course you grew up on". So I put my anger aside and made a tee time for 5:38AM. It was nice to see an old friend again. I had a nice round and left the old hard feelings behind.
Golf to honor my father
The last course my father and I played together just days before his death. This week marks five years. I play the course whenever I'm in town. This last week I played the first course we played together and this course.
It's hard to believe it's been five years.
