At the corner of Sea Island and Garden City in Richmond, BC in the poll position sits a red Dodge Stratus.

The surrounding cars can hear Matt Good's Alert Status Red blaring.

Then the light changes.

Gone.

He's an arrogant American who hits the curve on to the southbound 99 a full 200 meters ahead of the rest of the pack.

So it's time to switch out the CD selection in the car.

Out goes my compilations of:

Sting, Collective Soul, cool tune starting with Joe Jackson, cooler tunes starting with the Smiths, Prince, cool chick tunes starting with Courtney Love's Malibu, the Kinks Live, and Loggins and Messina.

IN go, Spanish tunes starting with La Quiaca off The Motorcycle Diaries soundtrack, "dad's oldies" (60's rock), Big Sugar (great Canadian guitar virtuoso Gordie Johnston's ex band), my "hurting" tunes compilation (done me wrong songs), a southern rock compilation, Spyro Gyra's Love and Other Obsessions (they'll be at the Jazz Alley in Seattle early Feb and so will we) and finally Walter Becker's 11 Tracks of Whack (1/2 of the genius known as Steely Dan).

The lone hold over is Matthew Good's White Light Rock and Roll Review.
