Great stories. Great scripts. Great Actors. Great small details that too many money hungry studios leave out when they sign hacks like Julia Roberts and Russell Crowe.
How many movies have you gone to where all the good parts were in the commercials promoting the movie and the rest is just BS that laughs at you and keeps your money.
If I had to pick one for you I would suggest Sorcerer. It's on DVD now. It came out in 1976. It's about four men with reasons to run and hide. It's a remake of a classic French film.
If you like that one Miller's Crossing would have to be next.
Gabriel Byrne with a serious Coen Bros script.
